NORTON CORE

To Design a secure wifi router.

Starting from scratch, the design team at Herbst Produkt worked with Symantec to get the power of Norton onto every device in the home. Wifi routers as of 2016 we're disastrous contraptions that over emphasized power and forgot about the consumer. For a device that needs to be out in the open in order for it to work, they we're being placed in the worst places, like in closets and under desks.

Core balances security and performance while also being an object that feels welcomed in the home.

At Herbst, Will engaged in every part of the product development timeline. Because this was Symantecs first hardware device, we started with a blank sheet and helped define a design language. We then teased out these visual ideas with sketches and 3D models, user testing the entire the way. There was endless back and forth with engineering, optimizing the footprint for signal strength and manufacturing. Lastly, getting into the weeds with packaging, graphics and even developing photographic assets.

After all the dust had settled, we all knew we had something special, but our feelings were vindicated when Core landed on the cover of Wired magazine for the best of 2017's gear edition.
